Hi Guys,
Just a few thoughts..... At a stage in my life all i wanted to own and drive was a Bentley Arnarge. I think it was all the music videos and the way the that yanks make them look pretty with big rims and super interior gadgets. I always though that in my life time my aim was at first the SL which is now my pride and joy, but to own one of the most prestigeous cars in the world the Bentley.
Now, my mechaninc i use had a newish one at the garage it was the arnarge red label in champagne silver with cream leathers. As soon as i saw it it was love at first sight and i knew that i would be able to sit in it and look around the car with great detail and maybe even get him to take me for a quick spin..... so with me cheshire cat smile i asked him to show me the car.
He pulled out 2 sets of merc keys from his pocket ( newer type keys) i said to him promptly they arent bentley keys they are not good enoughh!!!!! So he went inside and got the keys for the bentley and to my dissapointment they looked rubbish!!!!! i was expecting something that would distuinguish it as a bentley.... it looked like a normal car key and no remote fob of anything either..... thought ok
As i approached the car having slated the keys to my mechanic he shouted open it up with the alarm fob! i pressed the alarm to my horror i though i was opening a ford escort with a toad alarm!!!!! it was the old tick.... tick tick noise i just busrt out laughing as did my mechaninc..... a 120k car and they fit a toad alarm to it.... things only get worse..... the interior buttons look and feel cheap and too plastic u cant open the bonnet unless you have sufficient size nails to get under the hood and pull it up, its washey kind of boat feeling in the car when its being driven..... BUT boy does it go, my mechaninc floored it the car shot of like a bullet on anphetamines..... but with a turbo half the size of the engine and 6.7 litre engine you woudl expect some oomph....

So over all im not impressed and have been thinking long and hard for a future dream car..... any ideas..... Dreams are only dreams if they are not reality......

Wise man often say.... Grass is not always greener.

If you have a very good car already it is going to be hard to find something much better. Most cars today have reached a fairly high standard of quality and refinement so finding that extra bit of 'something' to make a motor stand out is an uphill struggle.

You have now ruined your dream! I remember Top Gear presenter, Captain Slow, recently took a look at the Lamborghini countach as it was always his childhood dream car (remember the eighties, there wasn't a boy in the country that didn't have a large poster of a countach on the bedroom wall, me included). His conclusion was that it was undriveable rubbish, another illusion shattered.

To be fair, the more modern, if you can call it that, Arnage T is better. My last shattered dream was the Maserati Gransport. Really wanted to like it, but is was terrible

That was what sprung into my mind when reading through this thread. I had all sorts of lambo stuff, when I was a kid, and I saw a guy driving a countach around hockenhiem in the late 70's. I thought that was the car for me.

Now it's the muria for me.

I took my uncles Bentley for a spin round the block a few years ago and wasn't as impressed as I thought I'd be. The fact is that the older bentleys, as well built as they were, did not have the development budget that is plouged into even a golf. As a result, some things are great, with the finest leather and horse hair padding etc, but ergonomics etc are a little less acomplished. The things that struck me were the seat adjuster switches where as I moved the seat forward, my hand was crushed by the armrest - compare that to the brilliant door switch design on a merc. There was also a cheap looking plastic block seemingly holding the dash woodwork in place.
Finally I found it was too wide to get down one street between the parked cars and I ended up turning round. Having driven S classes, this struck me a silly.
What we often forget is that the cost of designing a proper interior including switch gear is astronomical and spread out over the production run, is simply unaffordable on something like a Bentley.
