Hi Guys.

I have used my CTEK XS 0.8 on several of our cars and motor bikes over the years but it seems to have stopped working.

When I leave it charging it does not show all the lights indicating that the battery is charged up any more, the charger just gets quite warm after a few days and only shows the first two yellow lights.

If it is time for me to buy a new replacement what would you recommend please.

Thank you.

CTEK MX5 for me - I’ve 3 of them and very happy with them on car or bike (I’ve 5 others, all CTEK or Optimates)

Be aware that Maypole say:-

  • Fully automatic dual voltage smart charger recommended for a wide range of vehicles up to 2.5L (2500cc)
  • Suitable for use with 6V & 12V lead-acid and 12V AGM batteries of 1.2Ah to 120Ah
  • Not recommended for use with GEL batteries

I've got two cteks, and they are good, but I've since bought one of these and it is better than both of them, https://no.co/genius5

Noco Genius for me.
I personally use a Noco Genius 10 and recently bought those terminal cable attachments so I don’t have to use the crocodile clamps and and makes accessing difficult battery locations a thing of the past.

I forgot to add I also bought a cheap £20 hugsw 10amp charger from amazon which I now let out to tight arses in the local area and it’s going strong.

I've had 2 of them fail on fathers Honda :-(
Surprised at that, they appear to be built better than the cteks, even the wire thickness and connectors are far superior.

My Nocco genius 10 was purchased a few years ago and is used a few times a week around all the fleet. For a about 8 months all the locals were borrowing it too and giving it back clearly having thrown it around. Very happy with mine and well worth the cost imo.

Noco, never had a Ctek or Optimate fail in 30+ years of using them
Cough!.. my CTEK failed after only 5 years with light use of occasional charging.

Have you tried the suspect ctek on another battery before condemning it?
Yes, I used it on a new battery on my Nissan 350Z, the same thing happened, after three days only the first two yellow lights were on and the charger was quite hot.
