Either my partner or I have to get an oil burner to be able to afford to go to work!

Which is better, an older 300 E series diesel, the slightly newer 250 or look at the C class 220 / 250? What's the servicing intervals on these?

An auto is preferred but I guess I'd get better return on my fuel consumption if I used a manual.

Thanks as ever.......

The late W124 multivalve diesel (606 engine, non-turbo, 1994-1996 for estates) is a cracker but rare

I don't know much about the C Class but suspect the C250 engine was a turbocharged version of the 606 from the W124 whereas the later C220 CDi (and all later CDi engines) were from a later generation. And more economical...

So, age old question. What sort of fuel consumption from the old 3l lump in the W124 and what could I expect for a C250?

W124 fuel economy

W124 E300 Diesel multivalve auto estate - I get between 30 and 33 mpg driving in my normal fashion

You can get more if you have a light right foot and it will go worse if you're towing. The only way to get over 40 regularly is to have a manual box

Don't know about the C Class
