Best tyres for 98 SLK 230 with AMG Body Kit and Wheels????

Hello all. Just acquired a beautiful low mileage 98 SLK 230 Auto with AMG Body Kit and Wheels and FMSH. The rear tyres (245/40 ZR17) need replacing very soon. The fronts have a few thousand miles left in them. I was wondering what are the best tyres for this car? It has Continental Sport Contacts on it at the moment and I believe these are the recommended tyres for the car by Mercedes? Are there any superior alternatives or cheaper equal tyres. I have read that they don't last very long. If it turns out that the Contis are the best tyres is there a particular load and speed rating I should get. Also I have read somewhere that some versions of the Contis have a ridge that protects the wheels from kerbing. Any advice will be very much appreciated and I thank you in advance.

Hello and welcome Yes the AMG body kit make the car so nice.

Re the tyres, they came with Conti's,Michelin and Pirelli They are all in the top of the ratings, and little difference to choose from, Doing a web search will finf the cheapest price and I would go with that.

Use the same speed rating as you have now

we have conti's on my wife's c/coupe evolution sport, same size as yours these where factory fitted. have tried various makes on my c220cdi 125000mls, but find grip/noise and wear to be the best all round from conti's. conti 3's are recommended as replacements but i have not tried them myself. if you go onto mytyres (google) they probably have the best prices.cheap ones don't last can be noisy,and have poor grip.
