Hi. Yesterday someone tried to scam me on here stating they had a part I wanted. I asked for a picture of the part and they sent me a screenshot of a part from eBay, I had seen earlier.
Luckily I smelt a rat and reported this.
Mods got rid of him quickly.
Thank you guys.

The info doesnt really help, who was the user. It could be they didnt have a camera and just google the pn which led to a internet image. Maybe they were also offering it on ebay.

Maybe I am too kind.

Perhaps he hadnt checked his messages or the item sold elsewhere.

All seems a bit coy.

User is irrelevant as they’ve left…;)

The general form is as follows;

New member joins the forum, they may make a couple of posts, they then look though the wanted section and PM members that they have the required part.
The scenario from then is the same as any other scam where they want payment via friends and family or some shipping costs, etc. etc. The part never arrives and the member ends up out of pocket and upset

The other option is they post that they want an item, they then scam the member out of the part as the payment magically disappears. Similar to the auto trader scam where they love your car and want to overpay for the car and shipping.

Best course of action for members is look at who you’re dealing with. Do they have an established history on the forum? Are they a regular poster with good feedback?

If not to any of the above, please use extreme caution

We catch and ban whenever we spot them, although our systems don’t see all of them so please press the report button if you’re suspicious.

You've missed the point. The same exact picture is on eBay and selling for £250 from the mercedesbenz group in Newcastle. It was definitely dodgy. Gut feeling you could say.
