Bizarre intermittent (days/weeks) electronic chirping lasting a few seconds. Varies in loudness. Radio off, doesn't come from speakers but some where behind dash. Car running fine.
Any ideas?
Many thanks

It might be worth having a look at the ECU cooling fan. I had a similar problem and it drove me nuts for weeks. A couple of quick sprays with WD and not a cheap since. That was on an ML, so I'm not sure if it would affect you, but it might be worth a look.

Why not?............all computers have a cooling fan on the cpu, is that bad engineering as well?

Regarding the problem......I also think that the noise is emanating from the ecu cooling fan, the bearings dry out causing the 'chirping' noise....the newer fans have been modified to correct this known problem.........New fan costs about £80 and is an easy diy job.

Hi the majority of ECUs in the automotive industry are not fan assisted. This is mainly because they are situated in a area where they stay cool & have no need for a fan.Good engineering Bad engineering make your own mind up.

I would agree with 'over-engineering' ...though i guess that categorises it into the 'good engineering' option ;)

Interestingly, the ecu box, which is situated under the bonnet, is ducted into the passenger cabin from where the ecu fan draws its cooled air ...(particularly when the air-con is active).

Hi maybe im to logical.ecu situated in a area where theres no need for a fan good engineering.Situated in a area where a fan is needed unnecessary engineering.
