Hello, I need some advice please..
I own a clk convertible (2003) last of old shape..and
i had a complete drained battery.
Went and purchased new one, and guess what..my son removed the battery for me, then closed the boot.

I went to open the boot using the key element bit..and it doesnt fit the barrel...(it fits the drivers door, and glovebox..but not the boot lock.
As I have no battery connected, and the boot is locked shut..is there any other way of gaining entry to refit a new battery.
I may have to use a slide hammer to pull the barrel out or call a locksmith ..unless i can get some advice please.
Thank you for your help

Hi,
If it is the same as my C43 open bonnet and on the passenger side inner wing there should be a small black box about 4-5cmx2cm with a hinged lid under which is some electrical connections these can be used to power up the consumer circuits of the car i connected the positive on the red lead and the negative to a chassis mount then operate boot release.
Hope this helps,

If you have no power coupling under the bonnet, the the nearside wheel arch liner will have to be removed to connect a 12volt source onto the thick lead on the starter motor

The key should fit the boot lock but the chances are it has never been used with a little Silicon or PTFE sprayed in it should work

What are the weak points with these cars...where should i look...(I am going to buy from Mercs, so there will be some type of warranty..however there seems to be some junk about...can anybody recommend a good merc man/specialist/
Thanks again..Kind regards

The 03 CL is the one to go for, it is the face lift with new front and rear with much nicer inside appointments.

Where do you live so that a good indie can be recommended

The car you can only buy from whats on the market at the time that you want to change

It is a car that I would have if I part with the SL and in my view it is one of the best looking cars on the market. the rear space is limited though

Make sure the push part on the boot that you put the key in is pulled out fully. Put the key in and with a bit of 'twisting load' pull the button right out before trying the central lock/unlock again. Sometimes the button sticks in, and the boot does not unlock.

Long shot probably...
