How hard can it be to get brake pads locally?
Eventually got through to one local dealer's parts, asked for pads for my Smart. He asked front or back .... and then proceeded to quote for discs & pads despite telling him twice I just wanted pads. Took name & number etc. They'll be put on back order he says ...... so when will they arrive? He'd no idea. I gave up.

Phoned another dealer .... went back through to reception twice. So tried again later .... all lines are busy!

I only want brake pads ................ Argh!!!!!!!!!!

I'll try Halfords ...... they can't surely be as bad .....

I know .... but you'd have thought that you could go & buy or at least order OE from a dealer & get a sensible answer on availability.

It's a good job the existing pads still have some meat left on them

I’m avoiding ECP and GFCP for brakes and the last set of a Brembo discs and pads from ECP that I fitted in the CLS are squealing and I know how to fit brakes properly and never had issues before. Can only assume good fakes creeping through.

I say ATE from AUTODOC if OEM is pricing difficult.

I feel your pain. Had the same with my w251 6 months ago. Not available and on back order - how long does that mean I asked - could be a week, could be 6 months I was told.

My indy said its common that even consumable parts are on back order. He had a sitting in his forcourt for 6 months waiting on a subframe.

In the end I got pagid pads and I am a stickler for genuine merc parts. But boy are they dusty cf to MB pads.

Maybe I should order spares now for the future......

what struck me is that these are consumable parts and not available - even in Germany. Its also a problem with the franchise model. There must be some sat in a dealers of another franchise - but they just dint have this info. Its annoying to have you think there are non in the world.

Did you try somewhere like Grangemouth, or another dealer close enough in another franchise.

I've emailed Newcastle this morning ..... I've had bits from them before via eBay ..... waiting for a reply

Maybe I need to actually call into a dealer rather than phoning.

Better brains than mine have wrestled with this supply chain problem. It's probably due to lockdown in China, but when we will get back to "normal", goodness knows.
