black cockpit shine

Having used some of this stuff in a misguided attempt to spruce up the interior of my W124, I now need to remove it because it's too shiny and blotchy. Does anyone know of an antidote?

Meguiar's Quick Interior detailing spray worked for me. It took a couple of applications but finally removed the shiny appearance. Now back to factory finish

There is also stuff called SUGAR SOAP, its used in the domestic / industrial painting industry for removing grease n wax n stuff before painting, its available from all good DIY stores and now comes ready mixed in the usual squirty bottles, can also be bought as a powder and mixed with water..great stuff..

I've used stuff like mr muscle kitchen cleaner before to remove that muck, but don't use the bathroom cleaner variants as they seem too strong.

I got some plastic cleaner/renovator from Lidl, when they have it, and have used on my 124 dashboard, it brings it up really well and looks like leather the way the grain is highlighted.
Funnily enough all Lidl's cleaning etc chemicals are good products and exceptional value.

I use the Autoglym trim & interior cleaner in the white bottle with the green writing. It's great for dash, trim, carpets, door cards and I even use it on leather seats. It's powerful but not aggressive

If you clean the dash and wipe it off it's matt. You can buff it for more of a shine - but who wants a shiny dash?

Meguire's do some really good cleaning products. They have this interior cream to be applied on the Dash.

Bottle is around £8 from Halfords and last forever.

I would be very careful of using some of the house hold cleaners on the dash as previously suggested. They can be too harsh and make the plastic brittle and then crack. I suggested Autoglym, Meguiar's, Turtle wax cockpit cleaner matt finish and ArmorAll Protectant pump spray semi matt finish for good quality products designed for the job. They are all well priced and available from your local high street car parts and accessory shops.

Armor all also make a disposable wipe with matt finish, work very well and do not alter the original finish. Car manufacturers went to great lengths to produce non reflective trim some years ago but forgot to tell eg the likes of second hand car dealers who seem to thinks everything should be as shiny and slippery as them
