Hi -

I think I already know the answer to this (and it's not pretty) but.. is there any easier way to remove the black gunge deposited around a leaking injector (in my case, three leaking injectors) than chip, scrape, blow the loose stuff away, chip, scrape, blow...?

Cheers -

second that !
i did one recently, try and use the non caustic one , might cost a bit more but a a lot safer.
I found that chip off the big bits best you can first and then use the cleaner.
Be patient, it can take a good while to free up the area, and dont force the injector. try and gentley rotate the injector a few degrees each way until it frees up. allow yourself plenty of time to do it.
When you get the injector out you will need to clean up the seating face in the head, i used a bit of fuel hose cut the the right length and rolled up a bit of the green pot cleaner suff and poked into the middle of the pipe , put some of the oven cleaner on this and put it down the hole and gently rotated back and forth , it cleaned up the seat perfectly.
Oven cleaned the injector fitted ne seal and new bolt and torqued up ,refitted fuel line .job done

Do be careful to keep the oven cleaner away from anodised metal, I use it on my mountain bike to clean the chain and bits and it eats the paint :)
