well it's arrived :D

The diamond black is very nice - I was starting to get worried.

Pictures will come later because of reports and meetings.

100 mils so far, but only 1 corner and two roads (A46 and M40) so cant comment on handling yet.

Auto lights on the underground car park nice, including cornering function.

Ipod cradle is on the back of the glovebox door and the ipod cable doesn't reach.... could laugh about that as my ipod is on order anyway

No aux in socket - dont know if they remove that on integration kit install?

Ride is like a magic carpet. Nice to have speed limiter back. Slow down to 80 behind oaf and waft back up to 100. Very effective, very German.

More later, back to the grind.

have to agree with you charlie....

The Wife's SLK 350 is bust and Mercedes have loaned us a 700 mile 320 CDi E class and i'm very impressed......

The Slk needs a new wiring loom, so looks like we'll be keeping the Cdi for another 2-3 weeks.....

ah good - is that the I6 or V6?

noticed that with the lights on there is no illumination of the light switch positions. Assume there should be?

Also noticed speedtronic alittle different from my ML which used to remember my last speed set and move up / down in tens, trimmed in ones. C claims not to remember and moves up / down from current speed then fives. Haven't tried trimming.

Tried the headlamp wash and covered the front of the car in suds. Kids thought it was part of the autowash I think....

Parameter steering seems well designed.

Can't fold mirrors with key out. Going to have to modify exit procedure. MAybe can do it with door open.

Drivers window auto-open and close wokrs nice.

Joined in behind two chavs doughnutting a roundabout and she came round nicely. Surprised them.

oh yeah - no auto-fold mirror option found on menu supporting BenzML (MBworld) theory that you need special door controllers and stardiagnoe for that.

Snag List so far

Ipod cradle - why did they put it THERE?
Lightswitch positions do not illuminate - shouldn't they?
What is the truth on the aux on socket?

V6 or straight six ? if v6 how different does if drive / feel ?

V. Very smooth and quiet (but I had an ML270 before which was smoothish but not quiet)

Pulls beautifully whilst piling on the mph (and not even trying yet) but not frantically. All that torque I guess.

There supoosed to be electrickery when cold to stop you going mad when the aluminium block and grey cast iron cyliner liners are not up to temp. But it's not noticeable.

Not much in the engine braking department. Take my foot off in the outside lane and she keeps going. Just different.

Rained last night. Waited for wipers to come on automatically this morning.

My 14yr old told me to turn them on first and then it would be automatic. She was right..

Wondered why there is an auto setting on the Headlight Assist but you just turn them on for the Auto Wipe.

And I presume positions 2 and 3 are not auto but overrides.

7G-Tronic has not really been tested yet. Changes therefore have been more than adequately smooth. Thinking that the benefits are in fuel consumption and efficiency at the moment, and that only by trying a 5spd auto again would notice the difference if any... like your car is just ok until you drive your kid's Saxo again and realise how good the merc is.

But then with all that torque maybe a 1G-Tronic would be fine...

If it is the same as the E-Class then position 1 is auto, 2 is constant and 3 is fast.

Blassberg, sounds like you have a beutiful new toy!

I'd be keen to hear your feedback with the iPod integtation kit as I'm speccing one on my new order. Is the iPod cradle made by a 3rd party or does this come part of the package?

I'm also keen to find out if your snagging list is resolved as I would like to know what to look out for with items such as the illumination of the light switch positions, etc?

thanks - a great toy yes. Accelerates like a stealth bomber - not speed - its not a SLK55 - but the way it accelerates without fuss on demand.

ipod cradle is an MB part. Agree with them where to put it before they break the poxy open!

positions on lightswitch do not light up (why not? you only use them in the dark?)

didn't find the aux on socket so haven't eaten my hat yet

I dont recall my light position switch lighting up. altho when the sidelamps/headlamps etc come on the section next to the swicth lights up to tell you they are on. if you leave it in auto it will sort it for you so you only need to activate the lights in fog or if you are needing the parking lights.

well thats how i do it anyway.

sounds a nice car.

what i noticed with my 7gtronic is. it will not change into 7th unless you are above 1800rpm and doing at least 50mph. it will hold it (in manual mode) till around 48mph then it auto changes down regardless of if you select 6th or not. on the motorway on saturday, i used C until it got to around 60ish, then set the cruise control and put it in manual. if i didnt, when it went up and incline it would change down, but if you were in M it stayed in 7th.

Another thing to notice is that if you have it in M it will still auto change down at various revs depending on gear. in mine it changes out of 7th at around 1500rpm, 5th and 6th at 1300rpm and the rest at 1000rpm but it doesnt change up unless selected. so if you have it in M and dawdle up the the round about and forget, you bounce of the rev limiter at around 35mph in 1st. now in mine you get a noticeable exhaust note whihc give you loads of warning, but in a quieter car you may be listening to ipod generated sounbds and wonder what is happening.

when mine is in S mode when it changes down, there is a noticeable thump in the back as the next gear is selected. in C there isnt. see if it does the same in yours.

Mine changes up automatically in M... wtf?

Mine also got stuck in neutral today - turned off - turned back on - it engaged 1st then neutral again. Put into M and dawdled 400m home (phew!!) - hopefully a one off.........................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You mentioned before the engine died whilst parking and now it has got stuck in neutral. Seems obvious there's a problem to me - a trip back to the dealer is required.

Don't you just love the electronics on modern MB cars.

maybes it has a glitch. hence the reason it changes up in M mode. it shouldn't. it should just hold the gear. if you are in S or C mode and select a gear range so it goes as far as 3rd, it will change up at a preset rev limit. but you have to be makihng the engine work for it to do so. But in M it should just bounce of the rev limiter and sit there.

i think, for peace of mind, i would call in at the local dealer and ask with the on-off bit. could be nothing. but best to make sure.
