Looking for a CD changer for my 500SEC - radio/cassete manual says it can handle it - does anyone know the Blaupunkt model I require or a suitable alternative?
The SQR-49 is a lovely cassette player, but quite an old model now. Your best bet is to contact Blaupunkt Customer services to see if there is a current compatible model. I think originally it was TheCDC-M01 and CDC-M03 changers.
However, it will be unlikely that the car already has the correct (additional)wiring harness for the changer (this alone can be about £50), so you may be better off buying a new head unit and changer since the package price on new units is often cheaper than the cost of an older, specially ordered, changer unit. Only thing is that some new units can be a bit garish in styling.
If you don't particularly require a Cassette player, you could buy a single-slot CD unit for not very much. Also, you might consider a navigation unit.
One good place to look for Mercedes (Becker/Blaupunkt) head and CD changer units is Ebay. I recently bought a complete system for round £130.
