Blaupunkt Verona code - won't accept

The other week I had my battery changed. The radio code consequently needed re-entering on re-connection of the new battery. However after several tries, my Blaupunkt Verona radio/cassette unit will not allow me to input any code (in the handbook it says it allows me up to 19 tries). Every time I switch the unit on I just get _ _ _ Three dashes. I've left it for 24 hours to see if it resets itself. But no go.

Any advice on what options I have? It would be a shame to ditch it as it's basically a good unit and part of the original kit on the car (190D 2.5).

Many thanks

Adrian

On that radio the code memory chip gets confused and must be replaced. there are many radio repairers who can do this, there is a sequence for programming these but I have forgoten. Mine went back in 1990

Thanks Malcolm. The art of radio repairing seems a bit of a lost art these days with most modern electronics being so cheap. Do you have any suggestions on who might be able to unscramble the unit?

Thanks for your quick response.

There are loads on the web and in Yellow pages, it takes 15 mins to change the IC. re the art of repairing has gone, you are dead right.

if you get stuck I will ask on my electronic forums for you, but there is no shortage of people out there.

i was under the impression that with these things, first you are allowed 3 attempts, then it will lock you out for out for say 1 hour, then 3 attempts again the it wil lock you out for a longer period, then 3 attempts again - it will lock you again for a longer period, and so on,

until it will lock you out all together.

if its locked you out so soon are you sure you have the right radio code!!!
has the radio been replaced since the factory installed radio?

After reading Mioba's post, have you tried entering the four numbers for the code, it will not re set itself.

Thanks for all the replies. The number of dashes _ _ _ are actually THREE. Sorry to mislead. I"ve pushed all the buttons, rotated, pulled, etc. Nothing. Quite uncooperative. It won't let me input a thing. Just displays a static _ _ _ I think I may have to follow Malcolm's advice and find someone in the Yellow Pages who may be able to do something with the IC (what's that? Integrated circuit?).... Very unfair because it should have allowed me multiple tries. It's been like this for over a week now... No Radio 4, no Archers. Just the cozy diesel thrum of an engine heading towards 200k...

Hang on, you are doing something wrong, down load the hand book as Adrianhi says first you do have the code -yes.

Hi Malcolm. Yep, I have the original handbook AND the code. The handbook is quite clear: if you have three dashes _ _ _ you are locked out temporarily. But I'm being continually locked out. I've pulled the radio out of its socket too, then pushed it back in again. Still the same...

Any ideas?

Thanks

Yes then as I said at first, it will be the little IC (chip) the same a happened to mine. Anyone who works on these can give an option on the coding. sadly I used to know the way to bypass the code by powering up and pushing one of the buttons within 5 seconds, or hold one of the buttons when powering up. I am getting old..
