Blower

Hi all. We are new to the forum and new to Mercedes. We recently purchased a 420 SEL and the heat and air conditioning were running/blowing fine. Today it stopped blowing for no apparent reason. We checked fuse five and what we believe - though are not certain is the blower fuse. Any help you all can provide would be greatly appreciated...thanks..the butlers

fuse box?

Hi had same problem twice on my W124.

turned out that the fuse was okay but due to overheating of fuse contacts that the fuse box had distorted until a gap happened between fuse and copper contact. Maybe same on yours. To check screw up a ball of cooking foil and lodge under one end of fuse. If this makes it work then you will need to either move fuse to another (unused) position in the box or install separate fuse box for the blower.

hope this cures it as its an easy problem to fix, many people spend tiem and money on replacing motors brushes etc before they find this problem.

blower (intermittent)

Thanks Keith. We will give that a go. Today it ran intermittently so if we can't figure it out it goes to a mechanic on Friday. We are so excited to have this car so we look at it a just a small bump in the road. Thanks for helping us newbies out.

intermittent would be consistent

mine did intermittent before dying so I hope its as simple as that.

Yes the model is a beauty - make sure you find a good independent specialist to take good care and it should run for decades.
