my ML has couple of very small (size of 10p coin) dings on its door from parking at the local supermarket, public carparks etc. where the spaces are rather narrow, & adjacent cars open their doors rather carelessly.

I know that these can be rectified with the vacuum suction devices etc. & have quotes from halfords, but does anyone have any experience of these??

these dings really are very minor but I would like my pride&joy absolutely 'perfect'.

Most of the firms like " dents away" do good work

The vacuum suction devices you talk about are in the same catagory as chocolate fireguards, they just dont work, many people advertise these as dent pullers, they are only useful for holding glass, etc, or maybe holding a large soft dent out whilst panel beating around it to stiffen or shrink the metal.. as malcolm suggests the PDR. paintless dent removal guys are the ones to sort out your dents.

There is a kit available on ebay..I think.. which basically glues a plastic stick to the centre of the dent and then you pull the dent out...ok if you have original paint..but if the panel has been repainted then you could end up with a few coats of paint missing ..

Where are you based? I got someone who is really good for small dents and even small touch up work and he is mobile.

The thing is that any dent has to be worked back from the outer edges and worked into the center,if you do not it will kink forming a double ridge

I'm based in east london; i guess I will have to give dent master or pdr a call to see whether they can come to me.

In general, how much do they charge for 10p size of dent (I've got couple of these)?

What colour is your car? is there any paint damage?

When i had to get a dent out of my door it was quiet a massive dent but was only charged £80 and you can never tell if there was a dent there. Find out Dent master and see what they quote you.

Let me know if you still need contact details for the guy i used

PDR, paintless dent repair

Hi All

I have seen PDR in operation and it is amazing how small dings can be removed, almost to the point of invisibility, by experts. However, I doubt the type of ding acquired in a congested car park can be removed, or hidden, without the services of a professional bodyshop. It happened to me - a ding in a rear wing - and a good bodyshop was the only sensible answer.

I doubt that suction devices or pullers are that effective.

REGARDS

Phil

I've had a small ding taken out of the back door invisibly by a PDR company - very impressive. Cost me £40.
Re Halfrauds, PDR guys have a quick look, evaluate the work required and quote - so I have one on my front wing at the moment and had a quote of £40 from one of these guys but he didn't have time to do it there and then so it's still there.
Out of curiosity, I asked at Halfrauds and the guy came out with some sort of measuring stick. Apparently if the ding is up to a certain size its one price. 1/2 a mm bigger and the price goes up. So, despite the work required not changing, because the ding is slightly elongated, Halfrauds wanted to charge me £110, presumably for some, newly trained, hamfisted kid to do the work.
I'll be calling on the time served, experienced, PDR guy shortly!
