I have a mechanically-superb 280E saloon (W123 series, 1984). It's always been serviced by MB, and has a spotless leather interior. The only problem is bodywork and paintwork. There is definitely a growing rust problem under both front wheel arches, as well as a couple of tiny rust spots at base of the rear window. I'd also like to look at having a total respray carried out. Does anyone know of a good place to do this work in London? Advice greatly appreciated!

How much would you be prepared to spend on her?

Your rust under the rear seal will be the expensive bit - due to leaking a seal.

Open the boot, then look right underneath the windscreen part where the rust is - with a torch. You'll then see the extent of the problem.
To put this right, with proper facilities, you are looking at a bill of £4k plus. This would be from a reputable repainter with mercedes knowledge!

I love the W123, and am doing the sameon my 230TE, and my bills are approaching £15k. But another 20 years of ownership for this money means I am SO winning the depreciation battle!

cheers
