I'm on my soap box now, Matt has mentioned one assesory that i think are horrible.

Lets canvass the members,  to see what they think are the worst/tackiest assesory they have seen attached to a Merc.

Andy. I wont accept "caravan"!!

i originally put this in the tech section by mistake,..... old age!!

Hi Dave,

My vote goes to all the boy racers who fit little blue LED
lights to their windscreen washer jets mounted on the bonnet. This craze seems to have taken off in a big way round my local area, I've also seen it on quite a few cars in London too. Usual offenders tend to be Ford Escort's or Vauxhall Astra's with full wheel arch extensions and spoilers all over the place. Heh the drivers fit them to look "unique" only they all seem to be fitting them.

As for worst accesory fitted to a Mercedes? I always thought the old W124 fitted with a fake SEC style bonnet looked rather stupid... most of the extra wide grille covers up the fog lights. Sorry if I've offended anyone who has this fitted.

Hi Steve

I liked the piece at the bottom where you say about the guy with his extra wide grill, then you say "sorry if youv'e offended anyone",err! no your not, or you wouldn't have said it in the first place,I quite frankly I aggree!.
Does anyone remember carlos Fangango the ad from the seventies,y'know the guy with the big wheel arches or was it wheels trying to get out his garage, and the hwels fall off!,whatever, it looks comical & stupid, just like the one's today,at least that was only an ad!!

regards

Like Steve, I also hate those extra blue lights, and the go-faster stripes that seem to go with them. Not to mention non-standard horns which play a tune.

I'd say you don't see all 3 of the above in combination too often (except on the odd Volvo perhaps...).

The list of tacky accesories for cars is endless, ill put in a few, which should never have been released to the sane public.

Those 3 blades that attach to the wipers to keep them on the screen, and the colured rubber things to go over the wiper arm.

"Limited Edition" stickers in ittalic writing that were a favourite aftermarket purchase for all 1.6L Mk 5 Cortina owners.

Static remover / anti car sick dangly rubber things that hang uselessy from the bumpers of cars.

Cant afford a proper light conversion for your Mk3 series one Escort Turbo? then simply get a piece of sticky sheet plastic, cut holes in it, and pretend you now have twin headlamps.

Aftermarket washing lines on the back of Cosworths.

Headlight Eyebrows

Hubcaps from Halfords, that "Really do look like Alloy Wheels" (yuck!)

Knobbly Steering wheel covers

Beaded drivers seat covers that look like the "summer blind" your nan used to have over her back door in the late 70's to keep the flies out.

Fake fibreglass air intakes on bonnets

Need i say more. I really am sorry if ive offended anyone here, but so these things really look good?

Ps, late entry thanks to Dave and Fuzzer - Chrome Wheel arches!!!!!!

Matt.

Your list missed out Furry dice hanging from the ionterior mirror.

Stick on sun strips with the boy and girl name on them.

Even worse, as above but with a question mark above the passenger seat

Dave,

how could i have possibly missed the dice and sunstrip, i feel ive let myself down!

As for the limited edition badgesm they always seemed to be on Brown Tinas for some reason...maybe it was to compensate for the dodgy colour!!

Hi all,

I think you covered the list extensively. I can't think of anymore really good ones except the Taxi Drivers and Caravaners but I told I can't use them. Any way.

Changing the subject just a little, but at least I can join in.

The worst vehicles I have in the workshop. Are vehicles which have been lowered to within 2mm of the ground. Can't get em on any ramp. And if they ask me to carry out a four wheel alignment then I have to tell em to take it somewhere else. I takes 30mins just to get the thing on the ramp. Let alone get the equipment on it.

2. Vehicles fitted with Clifford alarms, that lock the car with out any warning leaving the keys locked nicely in the car.

The above cause me some SEVERE agravation, and tend to even when you tell the technician not to leave the keys in the car. Grrrrrrrrrr

Regards

Andy @ peace with the world .com

What about Vectra (not Vauxhall) imobilisers, get in in a hurry, then you try and get the key in the right way round in the dark............... No chance

Andy...

Valet mode on Clifford Alarms, is a far too well kept secret. I used to have one on a previous car, and oh what fun anyone had who had to work on the car, even after i explained how to use it. Having several sets of keys on a car with a Clifford is essential kit.

DAve, if my memory serves me correctly dear old Ford produced a dark Metallic brown on Cortinas....with a black vinyl roof as an optional extra, oh happy days!

And fuzzer, sheepskin / lepoard skin print seat covers...what a quality purchase...distinctly Del Boy!!!!

Changing subject slightly...

Has anyone seen the Nescafe TV Advert with a "Hairy low Cortina"? ...extremely funny. They use a Mk III Brown Cortina with, yep you guessed it, a vinyl roof.  :)

Years ago there used to be companies that actually fitted vinyl roofs to cars for owners who felt they were missing out.  Boggles the mind.
