I've only had my 1997 C200 sport W202 for 3months and some T&%T has taken the bonnet badge off. The only saving grace is they didn't damage the bonnet getting it off. This happened right outside my house. I had been working till 5 in the morning and it was taken between then and dinner time. Didn't hear a thing.
How much do these things cost? is there a cheaper place to get one than MB?.
Is there any way or has any one done it rigging the badge to the alarm so when they pull it off it snaps a wire which sets the alarm off.
I know that they will come back for the new one. And if I catch them!!!!! :-x I'm a doorman at a nightclub and of course I will use reasonable force to detain them. ;)

Just thinking, could I change the bonnet badge for a flat one and have a star in the grill? Does anybody know of a grill with a star for the C200 sport 1997 W202.

I'm so mad. . . . it seams strange but i feel like i've ben voilated.

losing badges isn't as common as you think, and the dealer isthe best place for a new one. They're cheap enough.

Everyone gets a merc and then panicks about the badge, often destroying the look of their car with flat badges and funny grills in the process.
Take it from me. I've been running mercs for 10 years and haven't yet lost one yet. The old man has lost 2 or 3 from memory, but that's over 27 years.

Pop down to your dealer, bob a new one on and relax. Unless you live somewhere dodgy or someone has it in for you, you're safe.
If someone is after damaging it, it'll be cheaper to keep replacing the badge than fixing the damage a jelous moron could do they set their mind to it!

I overheard my indie speaking to someone about a badge, I am sure it was about £18.00.

Just called MB strststone and been quoted £25 for replacement bonnet star.
Will be miffed if this one goes.
Quote:parts department " oh yes is very very common round here" MB
I live in a little village outside Blackpool. i'm supprised that it went missing here.
I think i will change to the grill star if the new one goes missing.
Like you say its cheaper to replace the star than repair the bonnet. i'd hate to keep paying for kids to have my star in thier bedroom.
Im going to do my best to keep my eye on this one. CCTV pointing at the car from now on!

Ebay, they are quite common, I have purchased a couple of new ones during last two months, to keep as spares, paid £11 and £14 respectivly.

Do try GSF and Euro Car Parts, you may also be able to fit the flat bonnet type

Anyone know what the quality of the ebay ones is like. Was thinking they might be cheap plastic and easier to break off - so less chance of anyone damaging the bonnet if they take a fancy to it (so thinking of fitting one).

I think that you could do a lot of damage with a piece of broken plastic, it can be brittle owing to the plating

I cleaned my car every 2 days, yeah i know its a bit obsesive, but its black and looks good clean.
The original Star looked plastic with a very poor silver coating on it.
The new £25 MB looks and feels a whole lot better.
Maybe the one that got stolen was a ebay one?

The Ebay stars, I purchased are a genuine mercedes part, cw MB box, and note copies, and I note that there are a couple on there at the moment.

I have a flat badge on the bonnet of my ML. Can these be easily replaced with a 'star'?

Years ago, someone refered to these 'stars' as a crosshair - something to be used to aim the car correctly. I can see that with an AMG - but hardly with mine!!!

oooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..!!

p.s. Don't mention 'The War' ssssshhhhhhhh.......

On a serious note - is it an easy job? i.e. lift bonnet, unscrew/un-bolt the badge, screw/bolt the "bomb-sight" on?

Anything more than that, and I'm lost.!
