Hi,

One day about two weeks ago the boot actuator on my W202 C180 packed in and the boot lid slammed shut.

I can still open it and manually raise the lid to full open where it will stay until lowering it a bit when it now shuts like a guillotine ( potentially dangerous)

anyone had this go and how difficult/costly is it to replace?

Cheers

I think

it's a spring/torsion set up on the 202. I can't say I've seen anything about it in any of the three manuals I have. I'll go and check my haynes again, as it's the one I have used the least. If it is a torsion type set-up, it could well be a two-person ( or more) procedure. I'll get back to you with anything I can find.

Not much in Haynes

Ecxept how to take the trim panels off. I do think I see a normal type spring behind the side panels, so maybe that's how they do it. I suggest a call to Mercman or Dronsfields to see whether they have the offending items in stock.

I had actually assumed something more complicated then a spring (silly not to just look), but you are right I have pulled away the trim now and found the problem is not as big as I thought,
The metal tab on the boot arm that the spring attaches to has simply sheared off !, Strange but maybe just metal fatigue, anyway I have attached it back to what was left of the tab with some wire, possibly needs something stronger ( there is a lot of force in that spring), but its working fine for now.

Thanks again M.
