Hello all
Does the boot need air to close the latch
It’s a W221

no... it is a unit that is electrically powered and sits in the right side of the boot under the coverings.

A couple of connections into the rear SAM, and needs coding.

The only thing that may be missing is the knuckle on the bodywork where the gas strut fixes too...

Do you mean full closing (i.e. press the red button and the boot closes) or the soft close (i.e. once it makes contact, it pulls itself down the last bit)

If the first, then as Barry says, mounted in the side of the boot. If the second, I believe it may need air supply to the actual lock - certainly the W220 did.

I only have experience of the W220, but the W221 may be similar. On the W220, it seemed to be a combination of pneumatic and electrical. There was a bellows assembly to do the actual soft close, and some of micro-switches that trigger / monitor the process and also control the boot light.
