I'm a newbie owner of '99 320clk elegance.

The only niggle I have is that the boot will not open automatically when I pull the boot switch. It wont open either when I depress the auto key fob. Annoyingly I have to slide the key out and go through the ritual of turning clockwise then anticlockwise and depressing the button.

Is this a common fault ? does anyone have any easy/useful-quick fix advise
or do I have to leave it to an auto electrician ?

Again any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 99 C230K. The boot release (and the door central locking) is operated via a vacuum pump. This pump wore out on mine which meant that I couldn't release the boot using the switch on the central console or via the key fob. It also stopped unlocking/locking the central locking via the key fob. I noticed the issue getting progressively worse, taking longer and longer to open the doors. On mine, the pump is located in the boot, above the right rear wheel arch. Need to remove some of the interior carpet to access it. I had it replaced at a cost of approx 600 Euros.

Hope this helps, though as I am referring to a different model, perhaps not.

boot

funny enough i have the same problem but the red light on the boot release switch stays on permanently. Just by chance i disconnected by battery as i was installing a new stereo, and low and behold when i rconnected the battery it started working. But it only worked for about a day or two then the same problem again. Mine is a CLK 230K i don't know what to do so i'll have to find an electrician to check it out.
