Boot Lid Lock, remote fob and interior switch

Have just purchased a 1999 E320 CDi saloon.The boot has to be opened manually as the master fob switch doesn't even show a redlight when bootlid option pressed numerous times and the interior switch to open the boot won't open it and is also rock solid showing no movement at all. More often than not I can open the boot with the key (Emergency option) but even that is intermittent. Where do i start please?

Have you done the obvious and changed the key battery? Or might simply be worn contacts on the key buttons - dismantle and have a look. Your interior switch sounds as though it's jammed - again dismantling and cleaning might get it operative.

I take it that your holding the button down for 5 second
Have you done the obvious and changed the key battery? Or might simply be worn contacts on the key buttons - dismantle and have a look. Your interior switch sounds as though it's jammed - again dismantling and cleaning might get it operative.
Thanks, how do I get the interior switch out? does it involve dismantling the dash?

Just reread your post.

Does this mean that you can't open the boot using the standard switch above the number plate?

Most times yes I can but when I can't i may have accidentally pressed the central locking on the key fob as I turn the key in the lock. My biggest problems are that the boot will not open to the master fob, nor the interior button work, which is solid and cannot be pressed/rolled. Thanks

Sorry no idea about the dash switch. You might try spraying carefully with a lubricant - may free it up.

I'm trying to remember back to my last W210 - I may be confusing it with another car, but don't you lift rather than press the boot open switch on the centre console?

With regard the boot switch, if the car is unlocked then it should always work, if not then the the contacts within it may be corroded - I seem to recall that the W210 boot is prone to rust around the boot lock. To access it you need to open the boot and remove the trim (prise it gently around the edges to pop the fixings after removing the warning triangle fixing.)

I don't recall whether my W210 had a remote release for the boot, but normal process for other cars is that you have to hold it for 3 - 5 seconds before the boot will release.

From your description I take it that you have the older style key fob with the sprung loaded key blade. You can test if the buttons are working by videoing the end of the fob body with the little window with a phone or CCD type camera - this will usually pick up the infra-red flash when a button is pressed.

I seem to recall that it is possible to put the central locking into an anti-hijack mode (double press buttons I think) whereby not all doors are unlocked on a fob button press, only the drivers door, I think that there may be something similar for the boot.
