I know this is the General forum but look at how the S designers handled the boot lid closing thing. I admit that I did not discover this until today (hey, we have owned the S for more than 2 years...am I that dim?). Anyway my wife and I had to do some major shopping when we got back to Bangkok so I took charge of unloading the S. Well, it seems that when the boot is opened a small chrome tongue comes out of a space just above the license plate. It is just the right size for closing the lid. And after the lid is closed...about 5 seconds later...the tongue withdraws into the lid.

All clever stuff, re your SL recess in the boot for closing, I lubricated mine with Slick20 silicon teflon spray, all moving parts and silicon oil onto the rollers, its clear,so no mess,i can now put my fingers in the recess (palm down, fingers straight out) on flip and it closes, "just like that".
