After a trip to the stealers where they fiddled about with my vaccum pump my boot wouldn't lock - at all. Not on the key nor the remote and the boot wouldnt pop up either using the remote of the cabin boot release.
The indie (and friend) (Rivet Counter on this forum) I use had a look and sorted it in 20 mins. When pratting around with the vaccum systems they had seen fit to pratt about with the lock mech too and placed the cam which operates the boot release lever on the wrong bit of the plastic arm so it never allowed the lock to function. They also managed to disconnect the servo cable!

I am really not impressed with the level of technical ability of mercedes dealers on the whole who do not seem to be able to cope with anything out of the ordinary or troubleshoot.

What's the value of a MBFSH if the people who are doing it have poor reputation and who are driven by budgeted target achievement?

I think I'll stay with the indies from now on..

Poor service

Hi

My local dealer fitted a new pump to my SLK230 at a cost of nearly £500. Since then I have done a little research and I now strongly suspect that the part need not have been fitted, just cleaning of the connectors required. Shortly after, I had to re-tighten the striker plate bolts, which had been left loose!
I have just taken delivery of another SLK230 from another dealer. After I picked it up I discovered that the steering geometry needed to be re-aligned, and there was a bulb out in the central dash panel, both faults which I would have expected to be picked up and dealt with before I took delivery. The salesman was very accomodating and arranged for the car to go back in to be seen to. However, when it got dark I found that the technician had fitted a bulb that was such low wattage that I could hardly see it when it was on, and the steering, allthough it was better, was still not quite right.
I ended up fitting a new bulb myself, and I shall take the car to my local tyre dealer, who I have used several times and who always does an excellent job, to have the steering adjusted.
It seems that MB have it all sorted out when it comes to sales - the free coffee, the 5 star toilets, the carpeted showrooms, but when it comes to servicing the moral of the story seems to be If you want something doing, do it yourself!
Disappointing really...
