Just a short note .. my E class locked the boot, and we could not get into it, either by pushing the button or by using the remote release by the gear lever.

Spoke to 2 different Merecedes dealars, who said have to see the car and then probably have to get into the boot via either the hole for the medical kit or the light assembly.

Tried manual key to no avail. Left key in car whilst my neighbour and I went for a cup of tea. Ten munites later went back to the car to find neighbours 10 year old son had opened it....

You would think you turn the key and then push the outer part of the lock... but no the technique is to carefully turn the lock with the piston in the out position and with the key turned then push the whole assembly in and the boot unlocks.

Looks like there is some sort of yellow tube connected to both the boot lock and a separate yellow tube to the unlocking system for the petrol filler flap.

Having manually cracked the opening of the boot, we found that it would not open automatically except when the engine is running, which makes me wonder if the yellow tube system is pneumatic, and losing air somewhere?

Any ideas?

I Had the same with mine when fitting sensors to the bumper and discovered that if the car thinks the boot is open then the remote is useless and also the switch in the car can only be opened with key. Sadly my lock had siezed leaving the key unusable.

Having to drill the lock out i am now left with a hole where my lock should have been.

But am debating on filling the hole and painting the boot so its all flush

Your Mercedes
2002 SL500, 216 CL500, all fully loaded
the remote operates the vacuam pump for a few seconds, the vacuam parts do fail on the boot lock, check the pipes for leaks.
