The boot on my 99 C200 has stopped opening fully. It releases as normal but up until today it used to open up fully. It also feels very heavy as I lift it and it closes with a thump.
Does anyone have any idea what might have gone wrong?

I believe that the boot lids on saloons are spring assisted - follow the boot "hinge" beyond the interior lining (which is easily removed). Perhaps the spring has broken or come loose.

On an estate the boot "door" is assisted with gas struts. One of those could have gone.

Sidetrack to 129

Sorry to hijack thread, but does a 129 bootlid open all of the way.

Mine opens but doesn't lift up and it would be nice to go all the way.

Thanks.

Thanks for that, I checked it out earlier and sure enough the spring on the drivers side had become disconnected. After a bit of a struggle(its a pretty strong spring) I put the spring back on and hey presto it opens fine once more.
Thanks again
