Hi,

I can't seem to open the boot from the remote centra locking key or the button in the car.

I cant hear any noise when I push the button -

Is there anything I should be looking for or checking before going back to the dealer.

Thanks
Frank

Boot release not working W203

I had the same problem, managed to sort out by spraying WD40 into the boot lock key hole, located next to number plate light. Then used the key
from the key fob to open boot manually. Take care not to use too much force and let the WD40 do it's stuff.

I had the same problem and took it to a guy who specialises in Mercs but not a dealership as they did not have a clue other than to quote for a new lock.

There is a gas release at the side of the boot and when my lock siezed this timed out. It may be this. The guy reset the gas and lubricated the lock and opens no problem.

When you use your remote control key to open the car doors you should hear a whirring noise coming from the gas in the boot.

try this

If you use WD40 the lock will become totaly jammed in a few months time when the WD40 sets.

Locks should be dry lubricated, oil mixes with dust and becomes grinding paste.

Use an ordinary thin pentrating oil if you must, one with graphite in it wll be the best of a poor solution.

I have used WD40 for door locks and can assure you that it will set into a sticky gloop in the lock barrel, just where you can't get at it to remove it,

W203 saloon boot lid seized

I am now having a headache opening my boot. Either using the remote or the boot release, I hear a whirring noise but the boot does not open. This did happen a couple of months ago and I managed to open it by using a bit of force. I sprayed WD40 on the latch and all was OK until a couple of days ago. Now the same problem has happened but using force this time has not been successful. Any ideas on how to open a seized boot lid? Any help would be much appreciated.

I have changed quiet a few of these latches now, the latch is a easy swap, the trouble is they forget to tell you that the wiring plug has been changed on the new one, you have to buy a new plug and remove the pins from the old one and change them around!!

I was afraid you'd mention the boot lock - there isn't one! Looks like this has been removed by a previous owner and instead a rubber bung is in its place. I only realised the lock wasn't there when I started to have problems, as it is not visible unless you're looking for it. Looks as if a new lock needs to be installed, but in the meantime, is there any other emergency boot release mechanism or will I need to take it to a dealer to open?

Thanks

Hi Was,
I seem to remember my owners manual idicates a manual boot lid release from inside the car. You have to put the back seats down and remove the trim around the lock area. From memory you use a screwdriver to release the boot. I will look it up tonight. I don't think there will be an emergency release from the outside.

Fred

The lock pictured is of a W202, your lock mechanism will work in a similar way.

If the lock barrel is missing, the trigger part of the lock mechanism is probably still present and accessible through the lock hole, if that is the case then there will be some kind of lever similar to Lever A in picture.

If Lever A, with a screwdriver, could be pushed/pulled or slide sideways, depending what way your lock is set up, then it should trip the latch and open the boot

The key lock ass on the 203 is the same as any other, what goes is the bottom latch,

When you pull the handle to release, a cable pulls the release lever on the latch, when you press the remote boot release that's done via a solenoid on the bottom latch, See photo!

So my point if both manual and auto are playing up then new latch needed,
