My W210 would only just pop slightly, my W211 flies open.
I never found an adjustment on the W210 as I never took all the boot lining out.

W202 lid flies open

Hi gordogski

My W202 boot lid flies open. I wish it were better damped because I have a feeling one of the hinges may have broken when my car was with the original owner.

I always open the boot with the key fob because that gives me the opportunity to stop the lid flying open. I recently opened the lid with the internal switch and I asked by brother to catch the lid as it opened.

I think I would prefer it if the lid just opened a little, like Blobcat's W210.

REGARDS

Phil

On both of my SLs they only open a touch, I like it that way

The springs are adjustable on the boot lid.

Be careful as they are powerful

Mine has a split personality, if its a dry day it flies open and on wet days (when the weight of rain water is apparent) it just pops open slightly.

I must say sometimes its handy when it opens all the way, for those times when your carrying an armful of goods that need to be stowed in the boot.

Although I have had one incident at the gym when I reveresed into a parking spot, did the cockpit boot release and heard the boot lid scrap up the wall as it opened (OUCH) it had just caught the paintwork on the bottom lip. I park miles away from walls now - just in case.

On my late W210 it flies open but not fast enough to do any damage. Just how I like it :D

Mine flies open - again - not enough to do damage and ideal when approaching the car with your hands full of shopping. One of the really helpful features on a Merc IMO.

Ar black55 has said there is some adjustment. Be very careful when doing so.... On my one (w202) there are 3 levels of adjustment which make quite a difference.

The boot lid on my car releases with the switch but that is about it. Needs quite a lift to open it.
I note that the original 'Gas Spring' part number 'A208 750 00 36 ' was superseded by A208 750 03 36 at some point, so maybe the originals were not up to the job.
