Boot stuck shut, handbag strap the culprit!

As title really, my better half has managed to trap a handbag strap whilst closing the boot and it will now not open.

Pulled seat down and gained access to see if there's a manual release catch or something but couldn't see one.

I have a 2014 B Class. Any ideas welcome...maybe if I push tailgate up from inside whilst someone pulls lever from outside?

did you try to squash the handbag strap and get the boot catch to latch correctly ? I suspect its in limbo part way and not behaving

so needs closing fully, before the next step - not forcing it worse

Push up and down on the door whilst pressing the switch.

Sod that - tell the Mrs she's to be prepared to pay for the repair to the tailgate due to her (think of a suitable word!!).

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Managed to wriggle it free from inside whilst someone else lifted the tailgate from outside.
The handbag strap has a nice hole in it now
