Hi,
Got a niggly problem as the boot tends to open quite sharply if left to open on its own, is this normal or is there anyway to tension it up.

Does it use springs or hydraulic suspension ?

Thanks

Hi johno2004

My boot lid is sprung and it initially opens slowly on the remote. However, if not restrained the lid tends to accelerate to the near vertical position. But I always ensure I am standing by the boot when the lid raises so that I can restrain its ascent with my hand.

The original owner of my C230K warned me that assisted opening is highly recommended because one of the lid's hinges broke, presumably due to metal fatigue. I would not advise opening the boot in windy weather without human assistance to restrain opening.

I believe a degree of adjustment to the springs/hinges is possible but I have never attempted it because it can misalign the lid and it takes some little time to get aligned again.

The mass of the lid can be increased to offset the tension in the springs and thereby reduce its acceleration, to zero, if required. I've found a couple of small, cheap magnets placed on the underside of the lid provides sufficient mass to reduce the effect of the tension in the springs. But I won't rely upon any fix to do its job in windy weather. A sudden gust of wind could damage the hinges irreparably. This may have been what happened when the hinge broke originally. I am much more careful.
