Hi, I have a problem with the bootlid on my 2001 E220CDI. I cant get it open, either with the remote button, the boot release button in the car nor with the key in the lock itself.
Please help!!!!!! :???: :???:

stuck

trey squirting wd40 or loc-lube into the lock, then on your key, working it around and gently trying to turn the key both ways. Can you get into the boot from the passenger comp. If so, you could try fiddling the lock from the inside.
Good luck, and don't force anything.

Bootlid not opening

Hi Myros,
I'll try the WD40. I don't know how to get into the boot from inside the car - its not got a through loading facility so I didnt think I could get in that way - unless there is a secret way in! The other thing about this fault - usually, when the bootlid is released, you can hear a noise like a solenoid operating but now you cant hear this. I have checked the fuses also, but they are ok. Do you know if there is a relay controlling it??
Thanks for the reply.

oh yes

it's all part of the central door locking vacuum system Dave, so the noise heard is the lock servo doing its stuff. Probably a busted servo or faulty hose is supect, or bad connection at the central unit. If you can't get into the boot via the back seat ( good reason for a W202 ) I'm not sure what you should do next. There has to be a way around this, as you aren't the first or the last. Make sure you have set all the other doors to "open" with your remote or with the key in the driver's door when you go to try the fix.

still not opening

Hi, I've tried wd40 and using the key (instead of the remotes etc) but still no luck. Are there any other suggestions - that won't damage anything of course!
Cheers

I suspect maybe you have locked the boot with the key?? at some stage??

try using the key to unlock it manually?

If in doubt there will be an article on this in the owners manuual.. Yes I have reead mine and it tells you a great many "useful things"

boot opening - not!

Hi Nick,
No, I havent locked it with the key - I have tried all manner of things to no avail. What I failed to say first of all is that I had a bike carrier on the back of the car, where straps go into the boot area though they didnt interfere with any of the mechanism of the boot.
I have had the back seat out, found the vacuum pump and the pipes leading into the boot are ok. I'll ket you know if I get it open - I am about to try something drastic using a crowbar.......

Hope you were joking but anyway, Its the kind of problem only the dealer is likely to have seen before as its quite rare. Had a similar problem with a glovebx on a BM, was about to try a jemmy but took it to the dealer instead. 10 mins later and it was open with no damage.
Worst case, I would suspect they could drill out the lock which should give enough access to the mechanism to spring it, then just replace the lock.

its open...

thanks for al the information. I finally got it open by gently levering each side of the lid. I think the mechanism must have got slightly misaligned when I had the bike rack on. Its a pain if this is the case though!
