I have recently purchased a '96 C180. Even though it comes with a full MB service history, there seems to be a randon mis-fire on idle. I have been told that this may go away if I replace the spark plugs with the new Bosch +4 Platinum. Question: Will it do the job or should I take it in to MB for investigation?

if its a misfire, replacing the plugs with any plugs will tell u if the problem is plugs. Buy any set and try. going straight to expensive plugs as an experiment is a wee bit extreme, dont u think?

Hi

Remove the spark plugs and inspect the ceramic casing. Usually there is a mark down the ceramic where the plug has been tracking out. Check the spark plug leads to see if water has got in there.

The trouble is that MB don't drill a water escape in the cylinder head like they did on the earlier engines.

Hope this helps.

PS. Bosch F8DC4 are more than enough spark of a spark plug to replace. I am not yet convinced that there is a great difference in performance, compared to the price which you have to pay!!?? As the John has said. You don't have to fit the most expensive spark plug to cure a missfire!
