You've not given much information, so I have some questions:
1. Has the setup worked in your car before?
2. Where is the CD changer located?
3. Which model year is your car?
4. Are you using retail CDs or ones that you have burned yourself?
5. If you disconnect the CD changer does your radio give a different message when selecting the CD player?
6. Which head unit are you using?

Normally if head units will differentiate between an uncommunicative CD changer and missing CDs.

Bose 6 disc autochanger 320 CDI estate

I have owned this car for 2 years and this is the original equipment supplied on the invoice when the car was new. I mean to the original purchaser.
The autochanger has Mercdes benz on the lid.
It is in the rear on the left hand side.
the car is a 51 plate 320 CDI estate.
It has been working perfectly until the hard frost.
I have not tried disconnecting it yet.
the CDs are retail except for 1 but I have not changed any of these and it was working ok before.
I have tried another cassette from my volvo estate (excactly the same cassette) with CDs that are working in the Volvo and it is still the same message.
Regards AA

When you load the CD cartridge can you hear the changer mechanism working to select CDs?
It is possible that the laser lens has become contaminated with water due to condensation.
Other points to look for are possible breaks in the cable from the changer to the head unit. These mostly occur around between the rear seat, sill area and the changer as that is where the cable is the most exposed.

It would still be worth looking for, and checking the fuse. There should be a constant 12V supply to the changer as well as a wake up signal from the head unit.

I have spoken to the local mercedes dealer and they say they may be able to correct the problem by putting it on the diagnostic machine at £70.00 an hour. I think I will just do without the autochanger and listen to the radio.

I can't hear the mechanism working, I have unplugged it and there is a red light flashes at the end of the fibre optic cable which is normal I am told by the mb dealer, also the catridge ejects as normal and the eject button lights up so I assume it has power. If the laser is contaminated with condensation can anyone tell me how to clean it as I can't see any way apart from stripping the autochanger down. AA
