Hi all.

I upgraded the hifi in my 2004 CL500 a while back.

All was good until sadly the larger speaker in the drivers door (UK), gave up the ghost.

I have a very smart and compact Class D amplifier driving the standard speakers (stop gap) but obvioulsly I got a bit too liberal with the volume and the speaker has blown.

In the future I intend to do a full speaker upgrade to the car but in the meantime I was wondering, given that the car has an uprated amplifier, would it be possible to fit a set of C215 Bose speakers as a temporary measure?

I'm fairly sure that my amp will drive them without a problem, I was more curious about connections?

Do the Bose speakers and Standard speakers share the same connecting plugs?

Any advice or experiences would be gratefully received.

Many thanks.

Kind regards.

Might be an idea to get the existing speaker out and find a high quality sufficiently high wattage replacement driver (such as Bose) that matches your amp and will physically fit and can be securely mounted in place of the existing speaker.

You can transfer the existing connector to the new driver by a bit of soldering.

Recent generations of high quality speakers use high power magnets and increased cone displacement to get much better performance and power rating for the same size/weight as typical older drivers.

Aren't the MB Bose speakers very low impedance (1 or 2ohm I think) to match their amps - may be an issue if you are using an aftermarket D class amp that is designed to see a minimum 4ohm load - it would overheat
