well, not quite new., its an old W110 Mercedes 220d from 1966 (same year as I was born). It's got some rust but at that age, that's O.K. It's by no means perfect but I just drove it 200 kilometres and it drove very well,

I'll be posting photos soon and asking loads of questions too !

in the meantime here's a taster for you

oh yeah, it's got those Soft Fin tails too :)

really cool !

cheers

Good luck with the restoration.
That's got to be one of the "coolest" saloons of the sixties.
Only wish I had the time / ability / cash / room / understanding missus to do something similar myself.

i too don't have the time or money for a full restoration but I will do little bits here and there as I can,

I'd really love to get the body work in good nick and then get it professionally sprayed but that is money which i don't have

still, i love it and it's now mine :)

cheers

Well, from those photos it all looks pretty sound bodily and the chrome trim seems to be all there.
Love the vertical speedometer and instruments either side. Wish we had similarly brave styling in modern cars.

there is a sunroof 'space' as you can on the outer side of the roof, however on the inside, nada. I asked the car guy (small indie) that I bought it from about it and he said he had the parts for the sunroof, so I actually do have them stored out the back along with the original left front fender (or whatever you call it),

so ... one of these days who knows, maybe it'll have a working sunroof

but for now the car is TAX FREE, and cheap to drive (diesel)

yes the vertical speedometre is a laugh and took a while to get used to, from 0-30 km/h its green, then raises yellow from 30-50, between 50-70 its yellow with red stripes and red from 70-120

i didn't go faster than that.... heh, the controls i'm still working out

to the left its the wiper (wipe, the actual squirting action is from a foot pedel to the left of the clutch on the floor), then there are the lights, then to the right of the speedo its an unknown, plus heater, plus cigarette lighter plus clock stuff !

cool !!!!!

hi all,

i drove the family in the car last week and all was well until the way back when i rounded a corner, and changed gear, it just wouldnt move into second gear so with a little bit more force, clunk.

I now had no gear (stuck in neutral), something popped out underneath the car, it was lte and dark, my kids and wife were expecting to go home and the car was not moving. I called for backup (Claes) and he being the car miracle man that he is located the gear stick assembly under the car and managed to 'get it' into A gear, the gear wasa 3rd....

so I drove home all the way (28 kilometres) in 3rd gear.

It worked, the car is now with my local indie, seems a plastic/rubber bit for the gear linkage broke/wore off and he's expecting the new part from Mercedes on Monday, so for now I can't drive my car but soon I will....

cheers
