My W203 C220 has developed a fault where the nearside front door locking button bounces whenever I try to lock the car using the fob. The button sometimes does not stay down and lock the door. The motors seem to working ok. Can anyone help?

Hello John, you will have to remove the door lining to see what is wrong, they are vacuam operated.

http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb0.asp?TP=1

go to this site, find your car with the VIN go to doors ,then coverings and you can see what is holding the door lining on.

203s are electrically operated. It will probably be the motor itself. I'm sure it comes with the complete door catch mechanism.

Learnt something here, are there any others in the range that are electric.

I will have a look at 202's next time I go into the program.

You are dead right, I see that they are coupled into the CAN system.

Thank you for that.

Bouncing button

Hi John

Did you solve your button problem?

I have the same symptoms when unlocking the passenger door.

I have seen a thread on another forum which suggests that it is a known problem to do with the Grommet through which the button arm leaves the actuator.

The soloution is to lubricate and resettle the grommet.

To do this needs the door covering removed, is this difficult?

I will try applying lubricant down the button hole as a first try.

Problem is not resolved. I have already put wd40 down the button hole! It is the passenger door which is affected.

This should be just the grommet that a rod passes through, and its stuck

I had this problem and found the thread on another site which explained the grommet problem. The operating rod is sticking in the grommet which takes the rod through a hole to the lock mechanism and as a consequence does not move far enough..

I fixed mine as follows:

Unscrew door button when door is in unlocked state.

Slide 6 ins of polythene tube over the button untill it hits an obstruction below(the grommet).

Squirt wd40 down the tube a few times.

Work the mechanism with the remote a few times whilst the tube is still in place to get the lubricant into the grommet (if you remove the tube before working the mechainism the operating rod may stick inside the door!!!)

Replace button

Takes about 5 mins and mine is still ok 5 months later

Just as an afterthought, how easy is it to get the door panel off if I have to delve a little deeper into fixing this?

Thanks,

Neil

Pah, thanks for the tips but no luck, sprayed several gallons down there using a tube as suggested but its still not working.

The button itself doesn't feel right, if I press it, as it to manually lock the door it feels springy, rather than the other dooors which stay down.

I think I am going to have to get into the door, and tips on how to would be very gratefully received (hidden screws etc).

Thanks,

Neil

Sorry to shamelessly bump my own thread, but I am desperate to get the panel off this weekend as I cannot lock my passenger door at the moment.

Thanks again,

Neil

I don't know how to take the door panel off on your car. Someone must. It's straight forward enough on my car.

Oh well I tackled it anyway, and jeez what a job it turned into. Had to drill the rivets out of the window lifter etc. to get the lock out.

I tried it out of the car and it was still 'bouncing' so I will get another this week and try it.

When I opened it up to look inside (and tried it while open) it appears there is a cam mechanism that should stay in the down position, but this isn't working and everything springs up again.
