Did you try a Mercedes commercial dealer for these brake shoes? I would be suprised if they have stopped stocking these consumables for such a recent van (still in production upto 1994) Although you could do with giving a bit more info on the exact age of your van. From memory on my old 1986 307 it was a fairly simple set up but you do have to set the 2 shoes individualy as, if I remember correctly the adjuster and piston are fixed and do not self centre.

If your garage is struggling to set this then it is probably worth finding a commercial specialist that works on these vans regularly.

thanks for the response, the van is 1989 and i was told by cicerly's that the shoes were obselete.the brakes have twin adjusters on them and i am having problems getting the brakes to stop binding but still being capable of holding the van on the hand brake. in other words i adjust the brakes so they dont bind and the handbrake wont operate correctly and vice versa. any advice on this would be a great help .
thanks again

I would dismantle the drum and disconnect the handbrake cable from the adjuster. The adjuster lever has a tendency to seize up . You can't see this properly when its all together. Take them apart and grease the moving parts. You'll get all the brake parts you need for the 308 from :www.brakesint.co.uk
