Hi guys,

Im looking for some new brake discs and I have been in touch with MB Grangemouth who will sell me some MB ones for £75 a pair.
Euro car parts have a sale on at the moment and Brembo discs are down to £60 a pair.

what are your thoughts. I have MB pads installed and want to avoid that dreaded brake squeal.

Thanks in advance.

I’d also say MB and make sure they are fitted properly.

I’ve used Brembo from ECP for years but did them all round on the CLS last year (discs and pads) as the brakes were low. That squeals at low speeds despite proper fitting. Not sure if the standard Brembo quality has dropped.

It’s ATE and OEM for my normal cars.

Never had an issue with Brembo but I think there may be different quality levels e.g. do ECP have their own Brembo line?

I must admit that I thought that many of the MB brake parts are produced by other manufacturers and that Brembo was one of the suppliers.

Pagid is the main one part of the Friction Products Group

Perhaps it is since they have moved some production to China then.
These ECP ones for example do not have any of the Brembo 'security' features that Brembo says they should have.

Anti-counterfeiting hologram and QR code for Brembo Aftermarket parts

The Brembo Aftermarket range features spare parts identical or equivalent to the original, guaranteeing excellent performance, reliability, durability, and comfort in all braking conditions.
For Brembo Aftermarket discs and pads, the guarantee of originality is provided by a QR code to check the part is genuine.

It is important that the box in intact and shows no signs of tampering. For brake pads, the QR code is printed on the sticker sealing the box, while for discs it can be found on the product label, together with an unforgeable Brembo hologram.
Naturally, all Brembo discs and pads are marked with a code and the Brembo logo and carry ECE R90 marking. Brake pads are additionally marked with a WVA code, while discs bear a minimum thickness value expressed as Min Th.

I fitted Brembo discs and pads all round to my last but one Merc.
Fronts warped in a couple of thousand miles from normal use.
Bought from ecp.
I'm convinced they were fake.
Replaced again with MB parts and faultless. Lesson learned. 10k on those now with no issues.
My daughter has the car now.

From experience, generally speaking we have found Brembo aftermarket parts to be equal to or better than OEM from the dealer.
Dealer parts, in braking at least, tend to be supplied through Brembo/ATE/Textar or TRW.
BUT i recently compared some dealer sourced Brembo discs with identical aftermarket Brembo from ECP and they were different in appearance. I would expect in some cases there to be a difference in quality on an internal specification basis.
Unless you squeeze every last drop of performance from your brakes, i doubt the average user would see a difference between an OEM and Brembo sourced part, assuming both were definitely genuine.

I had the same problem years ago with aftermarket discs o my Senator. Supplier wasn't really interested ... blamed me for not fitting them correctly ... OE discs fitted. Problem solved. I've only fitted dealer supplied discs since.

I have a rear set of brembos spare from ecp so I’ll check the the box as per the picture.

If you drive in an average manner you probably wouldn’t notice much difference between the OEM and Brembo if they are visually the same. If, as above, there is a visual difference that they are only vented or drilled/slotted/vented then I would take the higher spec discs as I picked only the vented Merc OEM discs on my C-Class, and my driving style is “too spirited” for the discs. Didn’t take me long to warp them, and I find that on country roads after 20mins of driving I find I have brake fade.

I think the pics above are just indicating how rusty the OEM one go opposed to the coated Brembo ones as they are two different sets of brakes.
I'm not sure if the vented ones add any performance benefit or are just a cosmetic one :D
