I have a 1989 300TE and it says in the manual the brake fluid should be changed every year.

Is this absolutely necessary ?

On my 190E i think the requirement was every two years.

Surely with modern brake fluids a brake fluid change every 2-3 years would be fine.

I would appreciate all your opinions on this as i dont like throwing money down the drain. I will change the fluid myself but every year!!!

Is this just a case of Mercedes chasing extra revenues ?

I get it done every year, no need to take to mercedes as its an easy job. Brake fluid breaks down easily, even modern stuff. A mercedes specialist charged me abt 15-20 quid i think...

brake fluid

Hi

The most moden fluid for common use is DOT 4 plus the recomended change interval for this fluid is every 2 years. the only long term alternative is silicone fluid. This is very expensive and can not be contaminated in any way. To convert to silicone you would have to replace all the hydraulic brake components
