- 2003 SLK320
My 2003 SLK320 has been laid up for the last few months (I've been distracted by other toys in my garage) but with excess time on my hands, today seemed a good opportunity to check it over. Refitted the battery and it sprang into life on the first turn of the key. I moved it around a few yards and waggled the roof up and down a few times - everything seemed fine, all the gauges and warning lights were normal (the BAS/ESP lamp lit up at first but a lock to lock swing put that out).
Shut the car down, went for lunch and returned about an hour later to move the car back to its parking space. Car starts on the key again but this time the dash lights up like a Christmas tree - ABS, BAS/ESP, Brake warning and engine management lights all illuminated. Moreover the transmission is now locked in 'P'. Turning the engine off and walking round the car scratching my head I notice the brake lights are on - even with the engine off.
To get to the point (finally!) it struck me that one obvious culprit would be a failed brake light switch. Checking on the web it seems that both 4 and 6 pin switches are listed for the SLK. Rummaging around in my spares box unearthed a brand new 6 pin one. Why I would have this is a mystery as I replaced the switch back in 2013, so my question is, before I contort myself under the dash, are both 4 and 6 pin switches compatible with the SLK and if not, which one is correct? Any help appreciated.
