hi all, some of you may remember I recently crashed my 1966 car, the damage was to the front right wing and that meant that the headlight and indicator were smashed up, plus the cable that brought power to them was possibly damaged, i'm not sure as where it runs behind was pushed in and I havn't got it out yet,

now when i press the brake pedal or initiate reverse my right indicator lamp in my instrument panel lights up half way... so I assume the brake and reverse lights are damaged some how,

i've checked the obvious (fuses all ok), so what next, could a relay have been smashed in the crash

no not yet, as I have to somehow bend the metal in order to free the wires trapped behind... and i'm not going to attempt to do it today,

i was thinking that maybe the front wing supplied earth, which is now gone and causing the issue, could that be the case ?

Niall, it could be, or it could be that the crush

has mashed the wires together and they both get the feed at the same time. Old insulation doesn't take much to ruin it. ( neither does new for that matter)
How's the rebuild going?

the rebuild hasnt happened at all Myros as i have had no time or money and wanted to wait to see what the insurance company would say, they finally contacted me today and said they will pay 80% of the cost provided that the garages' quote is reasonable...

I'm pretty sure they'll reject that claim and i'll end up haggling with them and then fixing it myself but I must go through the process first

cheers
niall

reasonable is a great word

it can mean anything you want, depending on who you are. I'd say it's reasonable to expect an old merc to cost a bit to fix. they'll probably say it's reasonable for an old car to be cheap.
Good luck with it niall, don't let them get one over on you.
