I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction, please?

I have just discovered that my brake lights are on permanently on my ML (W163), once the ignition had been turned on.

Any suggestions/clues/help?

Thanks in advance.

Best pop down to the Dealership (cheap!) ASAP then. Will they be able to diagnose if it is simply the brake light switch, or (God forbid) the ESP?

Just remove it Jez, prob find its stuck in! needs pulling out! if this is the case, it will still need replacing!!

Update.

I took the ML into the Main Dealer in San Javier and they diagnosed the problem as a failed 'Interuptor' (Mercedes don't have brake light switches ). After running diagnostics, the part was replaced and a new spare key was ordered at the same time. Total cost of parts and labour, including the spare key and VAT was ............ €80.35

Oh, they also cleaned the car as well :p

Now THAT is service..!!!

Off-Topic - slightly

Having booked the ML in, I had a quick peep in the showroom.

There, with 'Please Do Not Touch' signs all around it - was a SLR McLaren 722S. Price? €620,000 and it had been SOLD..!!

The guy called in earlier in the week on an unrelated matter, saw it, and bought it there and then.

If only..................................

You may pass it one day down the bottom of a mountain somewhere

It would be well worth Forum members planning a holiday near your place, and arranging to have the car serviced and any other work done at the same time.

The saving on garage costs would pay for the holiday - thus making it free of charge.

By the way, how big is your barbecue?

Well, there's A Plan, if ever there was one.! :p

I was staggered too - Main Dealer, lots of Mercedes 'Bling' and they couldn't have been more helpful.

The Service Manager went and got my car out of the Service Area - having first put a cover on seat - and then 'presented' the car to me - clean.!!

McLaren - update

You just are NOT going to believe this.!!!

The McLaren I mentioned is now back in the showroom - FOR SALE and 'USED'.!!

The guy who bought it (cash.!) has returned it to the Dealership and has asked for it to be put back on sale. He owned it for just TWO WEEKS

The reason? He felt that the car - desirable as it is - is simply too fast for the public roads and he felt it should only be used on a race track.!!!!!

By the way, he also has TWO Maybachs and several AMG's in his 'stable'.

His loss? Just 100,000 Euros. Not a bad rate of depreciation, is it?
