i was messing with a trailer yesterday with known electric issues.
gave up on the trailer but now my rear brake lights are staying on whether depressed or not.

checked fuses-ok.

the abs light has been on since i bought the car 3 years ago -i think it was never reconnected after abrake pad change - its not that which is the issue-

whether i drive with ligts on in dark or just drive in day the rear brake lights are on and i have to gte from exeter to glasgow tomorrow!

help? thanks in advance

Tania

ps 28,0000 miles on WVO no modifications.

good question- i had a xantia with same issue- the wire was cut and not reattached when pafds changed- and i had to take bulb out for that.

i guess they see it so often that the mot place checks brakes anywaywhether light on or off????

anyway sorry- in other post i say its a 1992 k reg 300td - w124

thanks for response to other post-i know i put it in wrong place- will go check .

One does not have to take the brake pedal apart, the switch is just stuck in, and needs releasing.

So you are only 10 miles from me :D

ok - finally read ur message- any chance i can come and visit and you could 'unstick' it- no idea whrre the ovp relay is to check the fuse nor how to just unstick this switch- but i love to learn and if you show me once i can do myself if there is a next time- or pop over and see my veg oil 'factory!
my number is 0146072666 and i am in MIsterton opposite post office and pub near crewkerne railway. we have to pop to yeovil today too, tania

well i mad eit to glasgow and back with no proper brake lights!
90mph on veg oil for 1000 miles straight.

cornerstone checked brake switch but it is not that
got a £40 diagnosis in Glasgow- not switch but the light control unit-
picked one up from a scrappy and fitted it myself but it did feck all to the lights staying on- although admittadly if and whn i do find the fault- a burnt out poart on the light control unit would need to be seen to anyway.....
so now looking atburnt wiring - SOMEWHERE!:-(

The brake light switch provides the live feed to the brake lights, so simple to take a wire off the output from the switch, if the lights go out,it is the switch
