hi, just had new pads fitted all round to my 320CE W124, now the warning light is on all the time, does this mean there is a fault or is there a nack to it? Or have they fitted the wrong pads?
If the single wire sensor of that vintage has not been in contact with the Disc it should not make any difference, even if if had the pads are non conductive, the only way for the lamp to be on is with a short to ground, possibly on the chassis socket
The most obvious answer is that the pads were changed because the warning light was on.
BUT the old sensors have been used in the new pads. The warning light comes on when the insulation wears away on the sensor pin and makes a circuit to earth (car metal).
So of course by using the old sensors, the insulation is still worn away and still shorting to earth via the high metalic content of the new pads.
New sensors should be fitted and are ordered seperately. There are two each caliper on your car, so you need 4 (although all 4 may not actually be worn).
Take your VIN number to the dealer, they are very cheap and easy to fit.
