I once had a set of front pads last less than 12 months on my previous 190E. I was not a happy bunny at all when that happened. Could be a sad reflection on my driving tho'
Make sure the floating caliper pins arn't bent. Usually due to not using the correct tool to push the pistons back. And also make sure that the brake discs are in good condition.
I used to go through pads about 1 set every 10 months on my old Vege oil (diesel) laguna , but then I had cross drilled and grooved disks (I used to do alot of towing)....
If it turns out I have to replace the pads on my 190 as often it wont make me cry ... I changed the pads as soon as I got the car ..only cost 22 squid for a set of 'Pagid' pads and a further 15 squid to flush and refill the entire brake fluid system... no squeeks and brakes just perfect...
(don't get tempted to use Halfords pads though they don't have the anti squeel shimms/matts fitted)
Belive me After years of servicing ford cosworths there are some good aftermarket pads out there , some times better than the OEM stuff....
If you are a competant mechanic don't get too hung up on brake pad costs ....
Still good to check the things Andy has mentioned though....
