Fitting below new brake pads onto my CLK 230k. [2002 -w208] this weekend. - front + rear

http://www.needforspeed.co.uk/pages/sbv_pl.asp?Vehicle=MBCLK01&PartType=BRB02

Never done the job before but friend has fitted brake pads 100 times before on other makes of car and will guide me through the process.

But as never done a brake pad change on a mercedes before is there anything we need to watch out for?

Also are brake pad sensors re-usable? if not who can source them?

Finally, is the dealership the only place you can pick up this brake pad paste from to stop the squeaks?

appreciate any advice/comments.

A wipe of copper grease on the face of the piston/back of pad will stop the squeaks.

Replacing the Pads is a straightforward easy job....you will need to buy new sensors as they are usually not re-usable once they have 'activated' the dash light, you can buy 'copper-grease' from any car accessory shop.

Might be mistaken, but did I read somewhere about opening or closing the doors when the brake pads are off the car? Something about the car tests the brakes when the doors close or open ?

Apologies if I've got this all wrong.

Half right. This is a problem on SBC equipped cars. When you open the door, the system assumes you're going somewhere and checks the brakes. I don't believe the clk has SBC. As far as I know, it's purely an E class (211) issue.

I'm still trying to come up with a way of shutting it down when I do mine. Options so far are a startac computer (don't have one), the official routine which involves lifting the whole car and rotating certain wheels in a specific format (too complicated and I don't have a ramp), disconnecting the pump SBC plug (preferred but I don't know the downside) or disconnecting both batteries - probably the way I'll go. (If I don't bottle and book it in).

New brake pads were fitted without any problem. Thanks! The pads havent bedded in properly yet so havent had a real test yet but sure they will be good.

However when fitting, i didnt have the time to put a wipe of copper grease on and as predicted i now have squeekage from the brakes.

i had the car in at National tyres today getting a wheel alignment done (since fitting new wheels) Have to admit seems like they did a great job. Car feels really solid on the road and doesnt pull to the side anymore.

However, i took the oppertunity while the car was up on the ramps to see if they could sort the brake squeeks.

The guy asked what sort of brake pads i had fitted. I explained they were black diamond brake pads fitted for the merc (as per link in original post above)

He laughed and said ' those are rally performance pads, they are always going to squeek and there is no way to sort it. Apparently these performance pads are meant to be roasted all the time and will squeek when driving normally at cold temperatures / aka Scotland

i was late for work so didnt bother to get into an argumement with the guy over this but surely what hes saying is rubbish?

The pads i bought were spec'd for the Mercedes CLK 230k so surely they cant be rally performance pads?

I'm not going to have any time this week to do the job myself so will need to find a garage to sort the squeek? is it worth visiting the dealership over this?
