hi-

in order to pass MOT the leaking brake pipe on rear has to be replaced but we cannot get the nut off at all as it is corroded so badly.

anyone have nay suggestions how to release it- it is 11mm but has corroded bad enouh to not have a tight fit .

infact all the back pipes and arms look really really corroded- is it ever worth fixing all of this?

The snag is that the pipes pass under the rear sub frame, some MOT guys get the rear suspension pipes muddled up with the brake pipes.

With the calipers off you do stand more chance of getting the nuts out,,

It depends on what the car is worth to you, its not an easy job removing the subframe

Normally some heat and a pair of good quality vice grips are the answer to these rusted up nuts..

done it- definately brake pipe but in the process the fuel return got damaged so now replacing that with some fuel pipe and jubilee clips.
looks like i am in the market for a newer w124 -or similar as long as engine keeps running on wvo- most of the joints, arms and pipes are terribly corroded so just a matter of time....:<(

by the way that brake light staying on issue was resolved - it was not the brake light switch nor the fuse on the ovp relay ( got it checked at the garage in ilminster but some wiring behind the switch for the lights on drivers side. fixed by the only car mechanic around here i know of apart from the chard garage. I also had to change the box behind the fuse box as it has burnt out which i did myself with an intact one from a scrappy and was well pleased with myself.

there was an absolutely b eautiful old w123 in perfect condition there and another old one from about 1960 . no idea how these folks keep their cars without them rusting out.

blessings Tania

hi again - well looks like i got thru that MOT at about £200 all told - now the mechanic who does my car is saying maybe it is salvageable if i get some 'back plates'
is this the right word for the bit on both sides at the back that the brakes an all the arms and pipes attach to?

or does it have a special name or part number. thanks
