Hi!
I have a ’93 190E 2.6 that is in need of a brake service. Specially, it will need pads all around and new brake disks in the front. I’m a little short on time so I called a few repair shops for estimates to get this work done. I know I can get new front disks and a complete set of pads locally for a little over $100 so I was surprised that the cheapest estimate was in excess of $560.
I’ve never worked on the brakes for this car before – is this service particular difficult? Will I need to replace any hardware besides the disks and pads, and, if so, are they expensive or hard to find? Are any special tools or skills required?
Based on these (expensive) estimates I think it may be worthwhile to find the time to do this brake job myself. I’m just afraid I may be missing something that would explain why these estimates seemed so expensive.
Any feedback would be appreciated!
Cheers!
