Just joined the MB Owner Forum and have recently brought a ML270 CDI Inspiration.

It a 2004 model and it has recently started sharp/high pitched shreeks when braking from no more than 10mph.

The guy I bought it from isn't willing to help and besides I'd prefer to get advise from you lot. I have a feeling its corrosion of the discs or they're just worn out ... any other views.

I live in gloucestershire and would be interested to know where a good MB specialist are.

Thanks

Take the wheel off the have a look at the condition of the disc and how thick the pads are.

If its been standing then it may be rust.

Pads and discs are not cheap.

If you bought it from a trader then I would insist on taking it back to the trader

Your Mercedes
S class
The brake squeal is caused by dust build up around the pads..this causes the pads to vibrate and thus squeal.. if pads are in good nick and they are performing as good pads should, then best to have them looked at by a mechanic ..couple of things u could do use copper grease on the back of the pads and check that the pads have the proper shims fitted..also a lot of pads have the edges champhered to stop brake squeal check the forum out I'm sure there is some good advise on here..and rusted dics will generally clean up with a good drive using brakes liberally and gently

Hello

Nice choice of car.

I would take the wheel off and inspect the look of the disc and pads, how many miles s the car on?

The MLs do go throught front brakes. Its a big heavy bus.

I wouldn't want to use them for the Job but places such as quick fit wil do a 'free' check?? Bits may not be too bad from stealers.

I've just bought discs and pads, sensor and paste for my wifes A210 AMG from the stealers and they were £130. Hers are drilled and vented so in a way better but maybe not as big?? worth getting a quote

Possible Brakes solution

Your ML Brake problem could just be a case of cleaning with brake cleaner and smearing copper grease on the back of the brake pads - this normally solves it.If you need new discs a pair will cost £129.96, Pads are £33.98 from Car Parts Direct. www.carparts-direct.co.uk, There is also is an online video on the brakes page that shows you how to check your brakes, avoid squeal - the video show how to replace discs and pads too.(If they are needed) Pads last about 27,000 miles, expect around 55,000 on the discs. Your brake discs are 26mm thick origionally - anything over 1.2mm wear and you should change. The CPD video shows how to check for wear, and its possible without removing wheel - I am new to MBO, own 2 Mercs and have 30 years in the Car parts business.Hope know one minds me mentioning the web address?

Thanks guys ... your views are much appreciated.

I'm no DIY-er and would rather the pro's looked over it for piece of mind. Do any of you know/recommend any Gloucestershire specialist?
