anyone know ehre i can get cheap merc ml 270 brakes for the front--as mine are making a ssqueeki noise--not sure if its the breakes or if they need cleaning.
Try Eurocarparts, they stock a few different makes of pad and discs, but remember you get what you pay for in all things and it's not funny experiencing brake fade in an emergency.
Squeaking doesn't usually require replacement. A little copper-ease between the piston and the pad usually does the trick.
Fully agree about the 'cheap' bit. I wouldn't put anything other than OEM parts into the brakes. Mercs are fast and heavy. Its not funny when they don't stop!
for what its worth I have used EBC pads in my Volvo V70R that's a very fast heavy car, I also have them in my Mercedes SL320, not as fast as the Volvo but weighs 350kg more.
The pads are used by most racing and rally cars teams around the world. they come in 4 grades. One of the nice things is that the wheels stay clean and what little dust there is washes off with a hose pipe. I have used them for 40k and my disc are as new. That's it.
I recently replaced my pads and discs on my SLK230. I used Black Diamond grooved and cross drilled discs and EBC Green stuff pads. Turnipsock is quite right you need to get some heat into them before they really work, but then!!! I bought mine from CC Motorsport of Oldbury in The West Midlands (They do mail order) The discs where £151 the pair and the pads were £69 a set
i agree with jberks - mercs don't sqeal when they want the brakes replacing. Has the disc/pad thickness been checked? is the anti sqeal pad on the rear of the brake pad still there? - one of mine fell off once and I squealed a lot!!!!
I'm interested in green stuff, expensive, low dust, good performance, don't require special discs etc. but are they worth the 100% price hike and is the low temperature response for 98% of the driving time acceptable even on a hi-perf car? I've left my disc-glow days behind but still occasionally get a soft (fading) pedal especially on quick cross country runs. I run AP, Mintex or ATE standard pads generally, which I am generally satisfied with. Any thoughts?
I did say there are 4 grades, you do not have to have competition pads.Go to the web site, type in EBC brake pads and it tells what they all do.
they cost from around £65.

I'm not a fan of putting any pads on a Mercedes to be used on the road apart from Mercedes pads...
But I've had good results with Hawk Carbon pads on other cars. Cambridge Motorsport are the UK importer but you can check the whole Hawk USA make by checking the US website
I've used EBC pads and they're OK. The Greenstuff pad is a just slightly more aggressive pad that is marketed hard. They don't last particularly well, unlike Hawk pads
Most Mercedes braking systems seem to be setup to produce a nice, linear progression of braking force as you vary pedal pressure. With a good set of standard (Mercedes) pads you can modulate the braking effort very well, particularly when coming off the brakes to a smooth standstill. I've found aftermarket pads (Textar, etc) to be hopeless in that respect - it's nothing, nothing, nothing, then lots of retardation and no progression
Harder pads like Greenstuff, when warm, may give more initial bite (and that may exactly be what you're looking for) but will tend to lose the wide range of progression Mercedes engineered in
I'd put new standard pads in front & rear, bleed the brakes and put your seat forward one notch (seriously). Then see if harder pads are what's needed
How long any pads last is a hard one, where you live and how you drive. The EBC pads in my V70R have been in 30k and show no sign of wear and I do not hang around in that,at the same time I have never had to do an emergancy stop. I have only been 3k in the SL so I can't comment. In both cars the disc are in better condition than when I first bought them.

I bought some "cheap" pads from somewhere last year, they didn't have any anti squeak plates and one of the ware wires came loose recently and was touching the disk. They squeek all the time so I have now replaced them, long before they were due, with ones from the dealers, which ended up being about the same price and had squeek plates and bolts.
I should also say, the competition pads aren't that bad. We are using them in a heavy car so they heat up pretty quick and they will kick in pretty quickly. If you put some DS11s in a Caterham then you might have some bigger problems.
Having found your model click on the coloured boxes at the top of the page as they give you some useful information on what is and what isn't recommended for road use.
Personally I'd probably go for genuine Mercedes parts.
